Researching Intimate Partner Violence Against Women (IPVAW): Overcoming Gender Blindness by Improving Methodology in Compliance with Measurement Standards

Abstract Intimate Partner Violence Against Women (IPVAW) has been defined as a violation of human rights and serious public health problem rooted in social inequality between women men. Nevertheless, significant amount scientific literature on the topic IPVAW continues to exclude gender perspective both research design interpretation results, despite its conceptual explanatory relevance. This paper considers certain gender-blind practices IPVAW. Based this analysis, we propose explicitly stating theoretical assumptions inherent definition construct clarifying intended for measures, so that they can be incorporated into analysis validity, argue favor need interdisciplinary studies based multicausal models, which incorporate category transversal factor type violence, well multi-method approaches, with aim overcoming issues underrepresentation construct-irrelevant variance.
